About

It All Started at a Red Light.

I was on my way to the Yarn Basket in late August 2023 to purchase a knitter’s tool that Dottie had in stock because she carried items that you could not find in a chain store. Then the red light stopped me from rushing up the hill to the shop. Sitting in my car I wondered: How long will Dottie, now in her nineties, keep the shop open? The answer to my question was taped to the shop window.

Owning a local yarn store (LYS) was never on my bucket list. However, I could not see an LYS that had been in existence for more that 50 years close its doors forever. One thing led to another, and on December 5, 2023, I purchased the business from long-time, second owner Dorothy Studley, who turned 99 years of age in September 2024.

My plan is to get this business organized once again as a full-service yarn shop so that it will be a turnkey operation for the next owner, a person who has always dreamed of running an LYS. When that happens, I shall gladly return to my teacher retirement. In the meantime, I am thoroughly enjoying this new endeavor and the customers who make it happen.
